The largest DSO of Northern Finland chose Aidon’s metering service and devices
Rovakaira, the largest electricity distribution network company in Northern Finland, operating in the areas of Rovaniemi, Kittilä, and Sodankylä, has selected Aidon as the supplier for its new electricity metering solution. The contract includes the delivery of approximately 32,000 next-generation electricity meters and mass installations in the field, as well as the connectivity solution as part of Aidon’s metering service. The agreement continues the cooperation between Aidon and Rovakaira, which began with the previous generation of meters in 2010. In the new procurement, Rovakaira’s choice was based on the best overall solution in terms of quality and cost.
In areas with sparse population, long power lines, and challenging conditions, the reliability of the metering solution and features supporting power grid monitoring are emphasised. Rovakaira has already utilised the low-voltage network monitoring features of Aidon’s devices in the previous solution, and the new system will focus even more on this. The connectivity between the metering devices and the head-end-system will be implemented using a combination of RF network and point-to-point LTE-M connections to ensure reliable coverage.
– Based on our extensive experience from long-term cooperation with Aidon, we are very pleased that Aidon was selected as the supplier for the new generation of metering devices. With the new agreement, Aidon and its partners are responsible not only for the delivery of the devices but also for the entire process, from mass replacement of the meters to their reading, which brings clarity to our processes. We will also implement Aidon’s solution for automatic disconnection of neutral wire faults in the new meters, which will further improve the safety of electricity distribution in our area, says Rovakaira’s network manager Jyri Tiuraniemi.
Petteri Heinänen, Director of Business Unit Finland in Aidon, commented on the new agreement and cooperation with Rovakaira:
– The AMR 2.0 agreement with Lapland’s largest grid company with long traditions marks the continuation of our goal-oriented and development-minded cooperation, and we are very pleased about it. As a grid area, Rovakaira sets unique requirements for the reliability and performance of the metering solution. The new generation of metering equipment and the latest technology enable even more versatile and real-time features to support reliable electricity distribution and offer new end-customer services.
The implementation project for the solution will start this year. The installation of the meters will take about two years and continue until the end of 2026.
