New metering solution: Aidon’s and Oulun Seudun Sähkö’s collaboration continues and expands
Following the tender process conducted in spring 2024, Finnish Oulun Seudun Sähkö (OSS) chose Aidon as its partner for the renewal of the electricity metering system. The project is set to begin in 2025. This renewal is based on legislation requiring the next generation of devices to include, among other things, more frequent data recording, enhanced measurement features, and customer access to their consumption data through the meter’s HAN (Home Area Network) interface.
The next-generation metering system will bring a significant change to OSS’s current operational model. The previous generation Gateware metering system, which has been hosted on the company’s own servers since 2011, will be replaced by Aidon’s MaaS (Metering as a Service) solution. In the MaaS model, Aidon is responsible for delivering the meter readings according to the agreed service level, as well as providing certain system functionalities to the customer through integration interfaces. The service also includes connectivity for the metering devices. Additionally, Aidon will handle the installation of the meters, with Elvera as a partner in this work
– We are pleased with the outcome of the tender process. Aidon was selected as the winner based on an overall assessment of price and quality. For over ten years, we have fully utilised the possibilities offered by Aidon’s system to develop both our own operations and the services provided to our customers. With this new agreement, our cooperation will now extend to include metering service and maintenance. I am glad that we can continue to work with such a knowledgeable and committed team. From experience, I know we are in good hands, says Timo Patana, CEO of OSS.
Aidon is also delighted about the continuation and expansion of the collaboration:
– Over the years, OSS has demonstrated its ability and agility to make versatile use of smart meter features in both distribution grid management and customer service. We are very pleased to continue working with Aidon, and we are fully convinced that in the coming years, we will see an even wider range of practical applications and services that utilise the capabilities of next-generation technology and meters, says Petteri Heinänen, Director of Business Unit Finland at Aidon.
