Lnett modernises meter data collection with Aidon ACloud
Lnett, a Norwegian distribution system operator serving the Stavanger region, has taken a major step in modernising its operations by transitioning to Aidon’s ACloud SaaS solution for meter data collection. With around 170,000 metering points and a critical role in regional electricity distribution, the move strengthens Lnett’s ability to manage its metering infrastructure reliably, efficiently, and at scale.
Before moving to ACloud, Lnett operated its meter data collection system on-premise. Managing the Head-End System (HES) required significant internal resources to ensure availability, cybersecurity, and ongoing maintenance, while software updates and patching introduced downtime and operational risk. Lnett therefore sought a more efficient way to run its metering operations.
Aidon’s ACloud solution was selected to provide meter data collection as a service. Following three months of preparation, all 170,000 metering points were successfully migrated in a single day without disruption to operations.
– The move to SaaS was an important step in improving the quality and efficiency of our meter data collection and reporting to Elhub. The transition was carefully planned and executed, and we are very satisfied with the service, says Jarle Stava, Metering Manager at Lnett.
The transition has delivered clear operational benefits. The SaaS model has strengthened cybersecurity and reduced maintenance-related downtime, while removing the need for Lnett to manage the platform internally. This has enabled Lnett to focus more resources on core grid operations and customer-facing activities.
Lnett’s transition reflects a broader industry trend toward service-based operating models that reduce operational complexity and strengthen performance, enabling utilities to focus on their core mission of delivering reliable electricity.
